Have you ever created a card and then thought, "Meh... it's not my best work" but then figured you spent enough time to make it that you might as well put it on your blog anyway?
Yeah... me too. About 15 minutes ago. Here's the card:
What I did, basically, is use Framed, a stamp set from Papertrey Ink to make the interior frame. Would you believe that was my first time ever using it? (What do you mean, "Yes, yes, I'd believe that, Ted!") Well, for my first time, I didn't do half-bad with it. ;) I just inked the edges of the frame, thanks to some very good advice I got on the PTI forums.
I then grabbed a piece of scrap cardstock and angled it against the frame. With a sponge, I grabbed some Ballet Blue ink (Stampin' Up!) and rubbed it around... allowing the scrap cardstock to act as a mask. This allowed me to have the ink go right up to the edge of the frame without going into the white area...
A close-up here:
In fact, you can see where "friend" is, where the barrier was formed. I didn't know what to do with the gap, so I left it as-is... and was actually not displeased with the result. :)
Here's a close-up of the adorable wreath from "A Wreath for All Seasons" (Papertrey Ink):
I definitely see myself using that set again...isn't it fun?! :) I love that it's not just for Christmas, but usable throughout the year.
Anyway, there's the "one that almost got away" (ie. in the trash can!) ;)
Thanks for looking and/or commenting!

Happily Ever Yours,

Awesome card! I love how you inked the color up to the edge of the frame - will have to try that myself. Thanks for the inspiration! (glad this one didn't go in the trash! gasp!)
ReplyDeleteOh my, Ted- very cool! Babies- Beth
ReplyDeleteWow Ted, you were very brave to try that sponging trick. I know I wouldn't have even attempted it. You did such a good job! Until I read your post I thought it was just colored paper. Very nice job using the wreath set with framed.
ReplyDeleteI actually think that this card is beautiful- it reminds me so much of blueberries! The sponged frame is such a good idea and really makes the wreath stand out. It's great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Ted and a great color combo.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do know exactly what you mean. I made a card the other day using this exact same stamp set, funny enough, and I thought, "meh, not great but do-able." I haven't posted it yet though. I like the fresh blue color on your card - very modern especially with the frame and font choice.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the way you combined that wreath and the berries. I have that very same PTI set on my desk now, so thanks so much for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pop of the blue on this card. It is beautiful. You have a lot of techniques here that I would never try. This turned out a lot better than you think. Have you looked at it again and had a change of heart?
ReplyDeleteThis card really pops! I love the blue berries on the wreath so much!
ReplyDeleteTed, I'm glad you didn't trash this card. I really like it. Love the blue and the frame. That wreath is one on my wish list from PTI, but so is too many other stamps. Maybe one day!!!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you kept this card, Ted! I love the sponging around the frame and how you matted the card too. Great card!
ReplyDeleteOK, you get a "Curt Slap" for this post! You are way to hard on yourself on this one! This is a beautiful card Ted! The wreath is a great image and I love the colors you used on it. Your inking technique worked beautifully, and your framing is perfect. This is a great card and anyone would be proud to receive it. Best, Curt
ReplyDeleteThis is striking, Ted! I love the colors - would have never thought to use blue for the berries - very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteOooooo, love this card Ted!! The colors are great and I love how you used the little berries with the twig wreath!!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great Ted, I really like that!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, Ted! Love the wreath and the blue, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteTed this is great love the blueberries!
ReplyDeleteTed
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning!!!! You should just make the card front and then frame it!!
I mean that. It would look beautiful on a mantle etc. That sponging is genius!
Gosh Ted, I love this card. You know that sponged on color makes the card stock look like suede. And the lighter brown with that rich blue are just gorgeous together.
